Astralis’ struggles continued at ESL Pro League Season 20 as Complexity sent them to the Last Chance Stage in a scrappy series.

Both teams faced challenges, but Complexity’s individual prowess carried them over the line in overtime on Vertigo (19-17) and Inferno (16-14).

Complexity now faces Imperial Esports, while Astralis battles Rooster to stay alive in the Counter-Strike 2 tournament.

Despite rebuilding their roster after failing to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen, Astralis has seen their form decline since notable top-four finishes at IEM Chengdu and ESL Pro League Season 19.

Their recent loss to Fnatic in the EPL opener left them hoping for a rebound against a struggling Complexity.

However, Astralis fell short, with star AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz underperforming, leading to an apology on social media.

Poor offensive play and bizarre mid-round decisions added to their woes.

Complexity, though far from perfect, edged out Astralis thanks to standout performances from Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and H?kon “hallzerk” Fj?rli.

While Complexity may not take much pride in barely defeating an out-of-form Astralis, their better gun round performance on Inferno and individual firepower got the job done.

MOUZ also saw disappointment in their ESL Pro League campaign, losing to Imperial in overtime on Dust2 (16-14) and Inferno (16-13).

Despite being ranked No. 1 earlier this year and having a strong season, MOUZ faltered, with players like Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin struggling significantly, posting just six kills on Inferno.

Imperial capitalised on MOUZs mistakes, with standout performances from Lucas “decenty” Bacelar and Jo?o “felps” Vasconcellos, advancing them to a seeding match.

M80 made headlines with a record-breaking 71-round match against fnatic on Anubis, the longest Counter-Strike 2 map on HLTV.

M80 won the epic battle in octuple overtime (37-34) before also taking Inferno in extra time (16-13).

Their victory secured a playoff spot and marked a breakthrough for North American CS, making them the first NA team outside Complexity and Liquid to reach Big Event playoffs since 2019.

The first semi-final of IEM Cologne 2024 saw Team Vitality secure their spot in the grand final after a commanding 2-0 victory over Portuguese underdogs SAW.

Despite entering the Counter-Strike match as favourites, Vitality remained vigilant against SAW, who had earlier taken down top teams like G2 Esports and FaZe Clan in a stunning run.

Vitality captain Dan “apEX” Madesclaire emphasised their respect for SAWs performance, saying, “We did not underestimate them, but focused on ourselves, and it paid off.”

The match kicked off on SAW’s pick, Nuke, where the underdogs managed to stand toe-to-toe with Vitality early on.

However, after a crucial misstep against pistols, Vitality regained control, eventually turning a 3-5 deficit into a 7-5 half.

Vitality dominated on their terrorist side, allowing SAW just one more round and taking the map 13-6.

The momentum carried into Dust2, where Vitality crushed a deflated SAW 13-5, securing their place in the final.

For SAW, this loss marked the end of their best run in a Big Event, but they can take pride in making their first appearance on such a big stage in Cologne.

The second semi-final saw Natus Vincere (NaVi) edge out MOUZ in a tightly contested two-map series, extending their unbeaten run on Mirage to 12 wins.

Despite NaVi’s strong group stage showing, MOUZ made them fight hard for the victory.

MOUZs surprise pick of Inferno caught NaVi off guard, but NaVi managed to rally, winning crucial clutches to take the map 13-11.

On Mirage, MOUZ initially dominated, with Dorian “xertioN” Berman leading the charge with an 18-5 K/D and 152 ADR in the first half.

However, NaVi’s resilience, bolstered by clutch plays from Justinas “jL” Lekavicius and Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov, allowed them to claw back and win 16-13, securing their spot in the final.

Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen, NaVi’s captain, acknowledged that they need to improve their terrorist-side play if they want to defeat Vitality in the upcoming best-of-five grand final.

The match promises to be a high-stakes showdown between two of the worlds top teams, with NaVi looking to continue their dominant form and Vitality eager to claim their first trophy of 2024.

SAW had to win their way into the main event of IEM Cologne through the play-in stage, where they took both games with ease. Throughout the group stage, the all-Portuguese squad upset G2 Esports 2-0 and defeated The Mongolz with the same scoreline before falling to Natus Vincere in the Group A upper-bracket final.

FaZe Clan are coming off one of the biggest comebacks in Counter-Strike 2 history after they overturned a 3-12 deficit to defeat Team Liquid and qualify for the playoffs. Despite losing to Team Vitality in the Group B upper-bracket semi-final, the world’s No.6 team seems to be playing its best CS ahead of the playoffs.

FaZe Clan’s experience in big matches on stage will prove pivotal in this contest, and it should get them over the line without dropping a map.

MOUZ appear to have drawn the worst opponent in the quarter-finals, as they will clash with a red-hot G2 Esports. The world No.5’s IEM Cologne campaign has featured close victories over Falcons and Complexity before falling to Team Vitality in the Group B upper-bracket final.

G2’s upset defeat at the hands of SAW has awoken this squad, which has dismantled the highly regarded Team Spirit and only dropped one map since that opening series. With Nikola “NiKo” Kovac, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, and Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa all rated inside the top five players in Cologne, this roster is humming ahead of a massive quarter-final clash.

G2 have been playing do-or-die series in their last three, and they will be primed for this clash. Top esports betting sites are offering $2.50 for G2 to claim this match 2-0, and that looks to be a great price.

The final day of the IEM Cologne group stage was marked by intense battles and unexpected comebacks, with FaZe Clan and Team Liquid capturing the spotlight in a thrilling rematch.

Both teams secured their spots in the Group B lower bracket final after decisive 2-0 victories in the Counter-Strike 2 event.

FaZe dominated Falcons and Liquid bested Complexity, setting up a high-stakes clash later in the day for a place in the playoffs.

Liquid’s choice to play Ancient, a map they had only recently added to their map pool, proved risky yet effective.

Despite Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak having a quiet start, Liquid’s riflers, including Keith “?NAF?” Markovic and Russel “?Twistzz?” Van Dulken, stepped up to secure a close win on the first map.

Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis made key plays on the counter-terrorist side, helping Liquid maintain their momentum.

The second map, Anubis, saw Liquid dominate with strong counter-terrorist tactics and a resurgent ultimate, who delivered an ace to regain his confidence.

Liquid won six straight rounds in the second half to quickly wrap up the series with a 13-5 win.

FaZe entered their match against Falcons as heavy favorites with esports betting sites, and they lived up to expectations.

Dust2 began with an 8-0 streak, with H?vard “?rain?” Nygaard dismantling the Falcons’ offense.

Although Falcons managed to force overtime, FaZe’s superior firepower and strategic adjustments secured a 16-13 win.

The second map, Ancient, saw a back-and-forth battle, but FaZe’s momentum from a crucial pistol round propelled them to victory, sealing their spot in the lower bracket final.

The rematch between FaZe and Liquid was nothing short of epic.

FaZe had narrowly defeated Liquid in their group opener, but this time, the stakes were even higher, with a spot in the playoffs on the line.

Liquid picked Inferno instead of Mirage, hoping for a better outcome, but FaZe’s David “?frozen?” ?eransky dominated the B-site, helping FaZe secure a 13-9 win.

Nuke was more competitive, with Liquid pushing the game into overtime before FaZe’s defence, led by frozen, halted several of their advances.

Liquid eventually broke through the strong defences, securing the map with a 16-13 scoreline to send the series to a deciding map.

The decider on Mirage seemed destined for a Liquid victory as they stormed to an 11-1 lead, leaving FaZe on the brink of elimination.

However, in one of the greatest comebacks in CS2 history, FaZe clawed their way back from a 3-12 deficit.

A flawless defence from ?rain? and Robin “?ropz?” Kool shut down Liquid’s attacks, forcing the match into overtime.

FaZe completed their miraculous comeback, winning nine consecutive rounds to secure a spot in the playoffs.

In Group A, G2 Esports made a statement by crushing paiN Gaming 2-0 (13-6, 13-1) in a one-sided series, securing their playoff spot.

Nikola “?NiKo?” Kova? and new addition Mario “?malbsMd?” Samayoa led the charge, with G2 delivering a string of dominant victories through the lower bracket.

Natus Vincere, after a sluggish start against SAW, found their form on Ancient and Inferno, securing a 2-1 (9-13, 13-2, 13-6) win and a direct path to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Team Vitality overcame MOUZ 2-0 (13-6, 16-13) in a tough upper bracket final, avoiding a quarter-final matchup against the in-form G2.

The third day of the IEM Cologne 2024 group stage featured six matches, with four more teams eliminated and another two advancing to the playoffs.

Team Vitality and MOUZ locked in their playoff spots for the Counter-Strike 2 tournament with wins over FaZe Clan and Complexity in their respective upper bracket semi-finals in Group B.

Vitality and FaZe played out a hard-fought three-map series, with the former taking the series 2-1 (8-13, 16-12, 13-9), even though their star player, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, had little influence on the clash.

FaZe picked Inferno for the first map, and with strong performances from key players like Robin “ropz” Kool and H?vard “rain” Nygaard, they took an early lead in the series with a 13-8 victory.

Although Vitality was forced into overtime on their map pick of Dust2, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan stepped up and carried the world number four to a 16-12 win, forcing a decider on Anubis.

The squads couldn’t be separated at halftime, locked at 6-6, before heading into the final half of the match.

However, Vitality, led by flameZ again, would win seven of the final 10 rounds on their terrorist side to close out the map and series, 13-9.

On the other side of the bracket, MOUZ took care of Complexity 2-0 (13-9, 13-11), with Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo, Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin, and dm “torzsi” Torzss dominating for the world number three.

Torzsi, who led the way on Vertigo, recorded a server-high rating (1.39) and kills (19) to power MOUZ to a 13-9 win on Complexity’s map pick.

MOUZ picked Nuke, and even though it was much closer than the opening map, Brollan (1.54 rating) and Jimpphat (1.47 rating) led the way in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.

MOUZ will face Vitality in the Group B upper bracket final, with the winner locking in a semi-final spot and the loser having to settle for a quarter-final berth.

Earlier in the day, FURIA and Virtus.pro were eliminated from the IEM Cologne after suffering their second defeat of the group stage.

FURIA’s second straight 0-2 loss, this time against Team Liquid, ended their disappointing campaign in Cologne, while VP was knocked out by Falcons in a back-and-forth three-map series.

Finally, The Mongolz and Astralis had their runs ended by paiN Gaming and G2 Esports, respectively, in the lower bracket of Group A.

G2 continued their IEM Cologne resurgence with a 2-1 (13-1, 13-10, 13-3) victory, where the world number four dominated their Danish opponents on two of the three maps.

The Mongolz suffered a similar fate to their upper bracket loss on Sunday, as they claimed the opening map before losing the next two, going down 1-2 (13-16, 13-10, 13-8) against paiN.

The final day of the group stage will take place on Wednesday, with the final two teams locking in their spots to compete in the LANXESS Arena.

G2 Esports secured the first spot in the Esports World Cup Counter-Strike 2 grand final after a swift victory over Virtus.pro (13-4, 13-7), finishing the match in under two hours.

Nikola “NiKo” Kova? delivered an outstanding performance, leading G2 with a 1.89 rating.

Virtus.pro initially gained a lead on Dust 2 with a 1v2 clutch from Petr “fame” Bolyshev, but G2 quickly turned the tide once they had money.

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipovs clutch in the first gun round sparked a dominant 9-0 run.

The Kova? cousins, NiKo and Nemanja “huNter-” Kova?, accumulated 32 frags between them, propelling G2 to an easy victory.

An outstanding 3v5 turnaround, led by Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, on the opening round of Ancient, continued to heap pressure on Virtus.pro.

It took 10 rounds for Virtus.pro to win their first before claiming the final three of the first half; however, G2 would wrestle back control quickly in the second half.

Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelskis three kills in the pistol round dashed Virtus.pro’s comeback hopes, and m0NESY sealed the match with a stunning 1v3 clutch in round 20.

NiKo attributed their success to exceptional team synergy, describing the event as a “honeymoon” period for the new roster.

“We just have to take it map by map, event by event,” he said.

“For now, we want to enjoy this honeymoon.”

Natus Vincere also booked their spot in the grand final of the Esports World Cup event after defeating MOUZ (1-13, 13-5, 13-8), overcoming a rough start on Dust 2.

MOUZ initially dominated with a 13-1 scoreline, but Na’Vi bounced back on Nuke, claiming the second map thanks to dominant performances from Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov and Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy.

They maintained their momentum on Mirage, taking a commanding 9-3 lead and eventually winning the map 13-5.

Natus Vincere will face the revamped G2 lineup in the grand final in Riyadh, marking their first encounter since the semi-finals at the PGL Major Copenhagen.

G2 Esport’s new Counter-Strike 2 lineup clinched a 2-0 victory against The MongolZ in their Esports World Cup opener, with close scores of 13-11 on Ancient and 16-13 on Inferno.

Despite the win, it was a tough battle, requiring a combined 48 frags from Ilya “?m0NESY?” Osipov and Nikola “?NiKo?” Kova?.

G2 had to overcome a 6-10 deficit on the CT side of Inferno, ultimately prevailing in overtime.

This victory propels G2 directly into the playoffs, while The MongolZ move to the single-elimination best-of-one last chance stage of the Esports World Cup event.

G2’s freshness showed on Inferno, with clutches and anti-ecos proving challenging.

Mario “?malbsMd?” Samayoa stood out, maintaining his sharpshooting skills despite new CT roles.

His crucial plays, particularly in round 24 of Ancient, were pivotal in securing G2’s victory.

Despite their star duo’s dominance, G2’s win was unconvincing on both maps, reflecting the team’s need for further cohesion.

The MongolZ, led by Garidmagnai “?bLitz?” Byambasuren, also had their moments, with clutches from Sodbayar “?Techno?” Munkhbold showcasing their potential.

Meanwhile, MOUZ and FaZe Clan advanced to the quarter-finals after narrow victories over FlyQuest and Sashi.

FaZe had to overcome deficits on both Anubis and Nuke, relying on key plays from Finn “?karrigan?” Andersen and Helvijs “?broky?” Saukants.

Natus Vincere and Team Vitality both secured quarter-final spots, defeating FURIA and M80, respectively.

Natus Vincere’s Valeriy “?b1t?” Vakhovskiy and Vitality’s Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut led their teams with decisive plays.

Team Spirit and Virtus.pro locked in their quarter-final positions, defeating MIBR and Complexity.

Virtus.pro showcased strong team play, particularly on Dust2, while Complexity struggled with individual inconsistency.

Going forward, the losers from the opening stage series will compete in the last chance stage, with the likes of FlyQuest, FURIA and Complexity expected to feature prominently.

Sashi Esports travel to Saudi Arabia following a runner-up finish at Elisa Invitational Spring 2024, a title run at Dust2.dk Ligaen Season 26 and another final appearance at Skin.Club Summer Cup 2024. Even though the Danes have faced mostly weaker teams recently, they hold a respectable 70% win rate over the last three months.

Likewise, MOUZ have done well this season, winning ESL Pro League Season 19 and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024. However, they were not as successful in their most recent competitive endeavour when they exited Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024 in 9th-12th place.

MOUZ are the superior team but have not played a match since late May. The rust shouldn’t prevent them from winning; however, Sashi Esports to steal a map at $2.69 is a far more inviting choice.

Before the summer break, Natus Vincere placed second at BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024, adding another strong tournament placement to their resume for the year.

FURIA Esports have not accomplished anything nearly as notable this season; however, they showed some improvement in June with a semifinal run at YaLLa Compass 2024. At the start of the month, FURIA signed Felipe “skillz” Medeiros from Team Liquid and made some changes to the coaching personnel, acquiring Viacheslav “innersh1ne” Britvin and Hunter “Lucid” Tucker as assistant coaches.

Even with the adjustments, FURIA Esports shouldn’t seriously threaten Natus Vincere. However, considering NaVi are notorious for starting tournaments slowly, and both teams are a bit rusty, a closer game is likely on the cards.

G2 Esports have made a couple of roster changes during the summer break, adding Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski and Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa to the active lineup as replacements for Nemanja “nexa” Isakovi? and Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen. Although quality players, the signings raise a few questions, mainly concerning the role distribution.

The MongolZ have been making noise on European soil since the turn of the year and even won YaLLa Compass 2024. The Mongolian squad have fallen short in bigger events, but even there, they’ve made their presence known with some resilient performances.

The best esports betting sites have G2 Esports fairly priced as favourites, but since this is a new roster that will need time to adjust, a wager on the underdogs is worth considering.

FlyQuest performed well at ESL Pro League Season 19. But since then, they have not shown much, with a last-place finish at Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024 and a narrow victory in the ESL Challenger League Season 47 Oceania finals.

FaZe Clan’s tournament runs before the break weren’t that great either, with top-six finishes at IEM Dallas 2024 and BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024. However, this is still the same lineup that won IEM Chengdu 2024 and placed second at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

Fixtures after breaks tend to be more volatile and unpredictable. But even with that in mind, fading FaZe Clan against FlyQuest does not make much sense.

MOUZ triumphed as champions of ESL Pro League Season 19 in a commanding display against Team Vitality, securing a 3-0 victory in the grand final (13-9 Inferno, 13-8 Mirage, 13-5 Nuke).

This victory marked their second title win in a row, successfully defending their crown as Pro League champions.

“It feels amazing, back-to-back,” exclaimed Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo after the game.

“It means a lot, especially with this team, with Ludde (Brollan). It’s good to win a tier-one trophy again.”

Despite their consistent presence in the playoffs of Counter-Strike events, MOUZ had struggled to perform beyond the group stage in previous events.

“Group stage merchants, but also Pro League merchants,” joked Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek, highlighting their reputation.

The grand final showcased MOUZ’s dominance, with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut unable to replicate his stellar form from earlier in the tournament.

Vitality faltered, with key players like William “mezii” Merriman and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire posting disappointing performances.

Vitality’s coach, Rmy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam, expressed disappointment, citing poor communication and execution as reasons for their defeat.

ZywOo, despite his quiet finals showing, still received HLTV’s MVP award, but MOUZ’s Dorian “xertioN” Berman emerged as a standout player in the title decider, leading the charge with stellar performances.

For MOUZ, it wasn’t just xertioN shining; the team as a whole outclassed Vitality.

With siuhy boasting a 1.26 rating and Ludvig ‘Brollan’ Brolin stepping up when needed, MOUZ secured the victory convincingly.

The grand final was one-sided, with Vitality struggling to gain momentum on any of the three maps.

MOUZ’s strong performances on Inferno, Mirage, and Nuke left Vitality unable to mount a comeback.

MOUZ’s victory showcased their prowess in ESL Pro League, solidifying their status as elite contenders in the Counter-Strike scene.

Despite their previous disappointments, this youthful squad has found success on the Pro League stage, defending their title in impressive fashion.

Their flawless run in the tournament, coupled with a convincing grand final victory, was a stark contrast to their semi-final exit at the PGL Copenhagen CS2 Major.

MOUZ’s dominance in the studio setting was evident, with players like dm ‘torzsi’ Torzss emphasizing their prowess.

While questions remain about their performance in larger arenas, MOUZ’s back-to-back Pro League victories are a testament to their potential.

As for ZywOo, despite missing out on the grand final, his exceptional performance throughout the tournament earned him another MVP award.

MOUZ and Complexity have secured their spots in the semi-finals of ESL Pro League Season 19 after decisive victories over G2 Esports and Virtus.pro, respectively.

In the quarter-final matchup between MOUZ and G2, MOUZ showed resilience after being thrashed on Inferno, bouncing back to win Vertigo and Nuke convincingly to take the series 2-1 (3-13, 13-8, 13-4).

Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek and Dorian “xertioN” Berman performed exceptionally well, particularly xertioN, who dominated the gun duels against Nikola “NiKo” Kova?.

G2’s performance deteriorated as the Counter-Strike series progressed, with Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov being the only standout player for them.

G2’s struggles on Nuke were evident, as they failed to find footing on their CT side and looked disjointed overall.

G2’s reliance on m0NESY was apparent throughout the tournament, but they still fell short of winning any titles.

On the other hand, MOUZ’s young squad continues to impress with each tournament, having already secured a top-four finish at IEM Chengdu and now another at ESL Pro League.

With Complexity awaiting them in the semi-finals, MOUZ appears confident in their ability to reach the grand final and potentially claim another trophy.

In the other quarter-final match, Complexity emerged victorious over Virtus.pro with a straightforward 2-0 (13-9, 13-3) win.

Complexity’s diligent preparation was evident in their dominant performance on Vertigo and their hard-fought win on Ancient.

Despite facing a deficit in the first half of Ancient, Complexity rallied back with stellar performances from Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and Michael “Grim” Wince to secure the map.

They carried this momentum into Vertigo, where they quickly built a commanding lead, ultimately closing out the series convincingly.

Virtus.pro had a respectable finish in the tournament, but their new roster experienced some hiccups, struggling against lower-tier teams like Fnatic and GamerLegion while also suffering heavy defeats against top opponents like FaZe Clan and Complexity.

Denis “electroNic” Sharipov’s debut with the team ended with a 5-8th place finish.

The 19th season of the ESL Pro League quarter-finals will continue on Friday as Astralis takes on Team Liquid and Team Vitality clashes with FaZe Clan.
